NATIONAL PRINCIPALS MONTH SPOTLIGHT: MR. ERIC MCDONALD

VIDALIA, GA. — With 25 years in education and four years as a principal, Eric McDonald has served as an assistant principal, CTAE director, and football coach. A graduate of Dublin High School, Mr. McDonald earned degrees from Georgia Southern University and Nova Southeastern University.

Education runs in the McDonald family; both of his parents were educators, and his father retired as a principal and superintendent. Eric originally planned to become a career coach; however, school leadership helped him discover his passion for supporting students and working alongside teachers.

Mr. McDonald enjoys collaborating with teachers to help students grow. He is especially proud of J.R.Trippe's collaborative environment, where teachers have opportunities to share their voices and take part in decision-making.

Outside of school, Mr. McDonald enjoys spending time at the farm, especially on a tractor, clearing land, or cutting grass. He also enjoys a cool evening around a fire.

A quote that continues to shape his approach to working with students comes from Nick Saban: “You can coach ’em as hard as you are willing to love ’em.”
